ASK the Aggies: Organic “Pesticide”

I've heard that there is some sort of organic, bacterial powder that can be used on cabbages to kill pests. Does anyone know what it's called and where it can be purchased?

You are probably looking for "BT" (Bacillus thuringiensis) which is a bacterium that commonly used as a biological alternative to pesticide and is regarded as environmentally friendly. (NOTE: for the difference between home garden application of BT and BT genes in genetically modified crops, view the wikipedia page)

We recommend these brands of BT and both can usually be found in your local garden shop: "Safer ®" and "Green Light"

Hi there, just wondering if you have any organic cures for Leaf Miners? Every year I have issues on my swiss chard and have yet to grow it successful amongst all of my other successful crops. I have a family-sized vege patch so don't really want to have to buy 10,000 other bugs to deal with a fairly small issue...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
